Hyde (Pronounced in Japanese: Hai-do, or in English as "Hide") is the singer for the Japanese rock band band L'Arc~en~Ciel. Since Hyde keeps his personal information secret, much about him is either unknown or unofficial (including his real name, which is rumored to be Hideto Takarai, and his birthdate, January 29th 1969). He joined L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1991 after leaving another band called Jerusalem's Rod where he was the guitarist.

In addition to being the lead singer and main lyricist of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Hyde has solo projects (the albums Roentgen, 666 and Faith, as well as their versions for western market), as well as his own record label under Sony Japan called Haunted Records.

In 2000, Hyde married model Megumi Oishi; they have one son together. This last piece of information is, as well as his name, unofficial. The reason behind this mystery around Hyde, according to him, is his admiration for another musician who also had a certain halo of mystery around him.
 

Hyde has also starred in two films: Moon Child, in 2003 (along with Gackt, another popular J-rock artist), and Kagen no Tsuki (Last Quarter) in 2004.
