Spongebob Squarepants (first name last name, 'Bob' for friends) is the main character in the cartoon of the same name, Spongebob Squarepants. This animation series was first aired on Nickelodeon on July 1999, starting a furor all over the world, with its crazy (but realistic at the same time) characters living in Bikini Bottom, somewhere under the sea. The series has become so popular that there's a film, simply called Spongebob Squarepants - The Movie, premiered on November 19th 2004.
Spongebob lives with his cat-snail Gary in a pineapple-shaped house. He is extremely cheerful, simple-minded, and hard-working - not in vain this site is named after his signature quote, "I'm ready!", which he constantly shouts while going to work. Speaking of his job, Bob is a cook working in the Krusty Krab, a fast-food local owned by the materialist Mr. Krabbs. Bob adores his job and always does his very best, although sometimes his efforts have terrible results... In some episodes it's shown that he doesn't earn too much money for it, meaning that he works just because he enjoys it. As you can see, Spongebob is extremely naive and believes everyone is kind and has good intentions, like him. But as all of us know, not everyone in this world is nice...
Bob's favourite hobby is fishing jellyfishes, often seconded by his best friend, Patrick Star, who is as silly as him (or even more). Together, they are like two little children, always curious and trying to have fun - most of the time, out of the simplest things. Another of his hobbies, later in the series, is karate, which he practises with Sandy Cheeks. Bob finds her very interesting and strange at first (don't forget she's a squirrel living under the sea), but eventually they become great friends.
Bob is the nightmare of his workmate Squidward Tentacles, a squid who is always in a bad mood (I emphazise: BAD). Spongebob always tries to have fun with him (or just annoy him...? It isn't very clear...), getting rejected all the time by him. To make matters worse (or funnier), Squidward is also Bob's neighbor.
Another marine creature who has to deal with Bob is Mrs. Puff, his teacher at the Driving School. Bob has wanted to get a driving license for a very long time it seems, but has always failed at the final exam. In consequence, he's always repeating the course, and Mrs. Puff, although she's very nice, is nearly sick of him, since Bob always gets to make her crazy, even if he doesn't intend to do it.
